The Story
-
The past week has been exceptionally tough for our family. As many of you are aware, our cat Dovey is the kindest boy in the home, but a few days back, he stopped to move around, and we realized something was off.
We brought him to a nearby veterinarian and found an abdominal mass. Regrettably, due to the weekend, we were informed that we’d need to wait until Wednesday for an ultrasound, and possibly until the end of the month for a diagnosis. We had to bring him home, but by the following morning, he was deteriorating quickly. I could see he wouldn't survive if we delayed.
Unwilling to wait, we reached out to numerous emergency hospitals in search of urgent care. Ultimately, a referral helped us discover the VEC (Veterinary Emergency Clinic). That's where we flipped the scenario from "probably saying goodbye" to "healing and rehabilitation."
As soon as we got there, the difference was day and night. They quickly started Dovey on IV fluids to stabilize his condition. In a few hours, they completed the emergency ultrasound and specialized examinations (such as fine needle aspiration) that could have taken weeks in other places. Dovey is now safe, stable and returned home.
I wish to express my gratitude to the emergency hospital team at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Toronto and Dr. Kim at the Kim Pet Hospital in Markham for their efforts of saving not just our cat, but our family.
